UPDATE – January 29, 2017 – Presidential Executive Actions
DACA – Under President Obama
In 2012, Obama instituted DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) allowing these children to stay in the country legally. During the campaign, Trump vowed to repeal DACA and DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents), a promise that anti-amnesty activists are watching closely.
In August 2016, President Trump stated “We will immediately terminate President Obama’s two illegal executive amnesties, in which he defied federal law and the constitution to give amnesty to approximately 5 million illegal immigrants.”
As it stands (January 29, 2017), President Trump has not issued any changes to the current DACA Program.
On January 26, 2017, President Trump stated in an interview with ABC News anchor David Muir, that “We’ll be coming out with policy on that over the next period of four weeks,” Trump explained when asked about the so-called “DREAMers.”

Executive Action – Under President Trump 2017
On January 27, 2018, President Trump approved a sweeping executive order that suspended entry of all refugees to the United States for 120 days, barred Syrian refugees indefinitely, and blocked entry into the United States for 90 days for citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. It also barred green card holders from those countries from re-entering the United States, the Department of Homeland Security said, though the administration said exemptions could be granted.
On January 28, 2017, The Immigration Service (USCIS) has issued the following statement with regard to how the Immigration service will proceed with the Executive Actions by President Trump:
DHS STATEMENT ON COMPLIANCE WITH COURT ORDERS AND THE PRESIDENT’S EXECUTIVE ORDERS
WASHINGTON - Upon issuance of the court orders yesterday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) immediately began taking steps to comply with the orders. Concurrently, the Department of Homeland Security continues to work with our partners in the Departments of Justice and State to implement President Trump’s executive order on protecting the nation from foreign terrorist entry into the United States.
We are committed to ensuring that all individuals affected by the executive orders, including those affected by the court orders, are being provided all rights afforded under the law. We are also working closely with airline partners to prevent travelers who would not be granted entry under the executive orders from boarding international flights to the U.S. Therefore, we do not anticipate that further individuals traveling by air to the United States will be affected.
